Book Description:
Tumors can be induced by a variety of physical and chemical carcinogens. The resulting tumor cells are usually abnormal in their morphology and behavior and transmit their abnormalities to their daughter tumor cells. Most theories of the pathogenesis of tumors suggest that carcinogens in some way cause alterations either of the genomes or of inheritable patterns of gene expression in normal cells, which then cause morphological and behavioral changes. This volume presents a collection of articles aimed at the question by what genetic or epigenetic mechanisms carcinogens can cause morphological abnormalities of tumor cells.Section 1 provides reviews of the known abnormalities of cell structures, including chromatin, nuclear matrix, cytoplasmic constituents and plasma membranes of tumor cells. Section 2 provides reviews of cellular targets of known carcinogens. Section 3 presents varying viewpoints of how morphological abnormalities of tumor cells and the actions of carcinogens might be related. The volume will be of interest to all those who are involved in cancer research or in the prevention, diagnosis or management of tumors in humans or animals

Book Description:
This volume is the first attempt to summarize current knowledge about the underlying molecular and biochemical mechanisms controlling the metastatic phenotype. While all previous authors attempted to put their findings into a context for translation to the clinical situation, the state of the art does not fully allow this because the field of metastasis is relatively new. Nonetheless, the contents of this volume will be of use to members of the cancer research community and clinicians interested in developing and implementing novel forms of treatment for cancer.

Book Description:
The Oxford Textbook of Oncology provides the definitive, international reference on clinical cancer medicine. It combines the experience of the world’s leading cancer experts, particularly from leading European centres of excellence, with an approach that emphasizes the importance of the best clinical evidence: the guidelines to management are based on the sum of all the available evidence. For rare tumours, where clinical experience is the main guide to treatment, the editors have ensured that options and alternatives are discussed. There are major sections on all cancer sites, and in each section investigation, epidemiology, pathology, causes and treatment are covered in a consistent manner to aid reference. There is a new international team of editors for the second edition, representing oncology, radiotherapy and surgery. Two-thirds of the text has been entirely rewritten. The chapters have been carefully reviewed to ensure that they are clear and concise. Quality-of-life and psychosocial issues, palliation, and communication are given fuller treatment. Early chapters describe the processes underlying cancer; the information on the molecular and cellular biology of cancer and their practical impact on diagnosis and investigative procedures have been extensively revised and updated. The sections on the scientific basis of cancer treatment include the principles of the use of surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and biological therapies. There are substantial new sections on adolescent cancer, cancer as a genetic disease, and melanoma and skin cancer and the extensive section on breast cancer is now in proportion to the importance and frequency of this disease. The many clear illustrations are prepared to a consistently high quality. The Oxford Textbook will be the reference work of choice for oncologists, both in practice and in training, all over the world. It will also be an important reference work for generalists who need to understand modern cancer management as part of their practice.

Book Description:
Given the latest advances in cancer research, which includes basic research and its derived diagnostic, clinical, and therapeutic applications, the book New Trends in Cancer for the 21st Century is written by individuals such as molecular biologists, whose tasks are to decipher, after sequencing the human genome, those new genes and pathways involved in the carcinogenesis process; clinical and molecular pathologists, who apply these discoveries for the molecular diagnosis and characterization of the tumor; and clinical oncologists, who treat patients. Pharmacogenetics introduces new perspectives in the translational fields with the design of drugs against specific targets, which at this moment are in clinical trials phases. Several organizations such as the EORTC (European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer) and the OECI (Organization of European Cancer Institutes) and comprehensive cancer centers play a crucial role in focusing cancer research on all these areas.
This book achieves a state of the art in every field of cancer research and discusses the new perspectives that will open the future for cancer treatment (basic research, new technologies, new drugs, therapies…). For this reason, the book is intended for pathologists, clinicians, and biologists, as well as fellows and students of physiology and

Book Description:
Chemokines and Cancer synthesizes a state-of-the-art understanding of the role that chemokines and their receptors play in the pathophysiology of malignancy. It examines the influence of chemokines on a broad array of malignant cells, including their effects on such intrinsic properties as growth and movement, as well as exploring their influence on the host’s response to a growing tumor. The authors also demonstrate the physiological consequences of chemokine expression and suggest how chemokines can be used to regulate tumor growth in vivo, including their direct effects on tumor growth, on tumor destruction by host inflammatory cells, and on tumor angiogenesis. The only book available that relates chemokines to cancer, Chemokines and Cancer holds out the promise of novel therapeutic approaches to malignancy through the manipulation of chemokines and/or their receptors.
